Black History is American History: Reclaiming Our Narrative

Black History Month, celebrated every February in the United States and Canada (and October in the UK/Ireland), is a dedicated, month-long observance honoring the achievements, struggles, and central, often overlooked, contributions of Black people to history and culture. Founded by historian Carter G. Woodson in 1926 as a week-long event, it grew into a full month in 1976.

Key Details About Black History Month:

• When: February 1st through February 28/29th.
• Purpose: To commemorate the impact of Black Americans on arts, music, science, and politics, while confronting systemic injustice and fostering education beyond mainstream narratives.
• Origins: Created by Carter G. Woodson (known as the "Father of Black History") and the Association for the Study of African American Life and History (ASALH) to ensure Black history was included in education.
• Why February: It was chosen to align with the birthdays of Frederick Douglass and Abraham Lincoln.
Significance: It serves as a reminder to honor the, often overlooked, contributions of Black individuals throughout the year, not just in February.

Southeastern Woodland Indians #1: Cherokee Locality

 

The Cherokees lived on the highest region of the southeast. The vastly forested Appalachian ranges that peak in the southwest Virginia, western north, and South Carolina, eastern Tennessee, northern, Georgia, and northeastern Alabama. They were a large tribe. The names of nearly 200 Cherokee towns Have been preserved, and although not all of them have been precisely located. It has been learned that they spread over vast area, it is speculated to be more than 40,000 mi.² (Terrell, 1971).

What's the difference between Native Americans and American Aborigines?

This was my response to the following question on Quora: What's the difference between Native Americans and Aborines? Native Americans are not the same as aborigines; they are not aboriginal. Native Americans are the second wave of people that came to the Americas, “The Clovis People” (Lovgren, 2007). They crossed the Siberian Strait. Siberia is their origins; they are mongoloids.

The American Aborigines are the paleo-Indians. They are the original people and are melanated. The American Aborigines AKA African Americans are of close origins to the Australian Aborigines. The aborigines are negroids and they have been reclassified as black. The aborigines are being marginalized globally and their culture and identity are being erased and destroyed through white supremacy through the labeling system, the media, and indoctrinated education.
