Picking up the Pieces in Your Life

By:  Kimberly Swanson "Purpoz",  MS-Psy, CNA

When you overcome an obstacle, there is still more work to be done.   Your life situation may seem scattered and in total disarray but it is possible to get back on course.  This is the time in your life when you have to pick up the pieces and get your life in order.

Life storms can come in many ways such as illness, losing a job, losing a love one, and etc.; the list goes on and on.  I am at a point my life where I am getting settled with my son coming out from the hospital and getting back into the swing the things.  So you are definitely not alone.

There are some things you can do to pick up the pieces:

·         Positive Attitude
·         Prioritizing
·         Having a Routine
·         Avoid Toxic People
·         Clarity

The first step is to have a positive attitude and to keep on believing in yourself.  It is so easy to have a negative attitude when things are not connecting and moving as smoothly as you would like them to. Being negative only stresses you out and makes matters worse (such as high blood pressure and burn out).  Staying calm and positive draws more positive flow of energy.  A positive mind set enables you to accomplish more things and to reach more goals.

When you are getting back on track, you have a ton of things to do.  You may be behind on some things, such as school, bills, getting your house in order.  But you can manage it better by prioritizing and figuring out which items needs be handled immediately and which ones can wait.

Another tip is to start getting back into routine. For me, I’m just now getting into a routine with my studies.   At first I had to play catch up with my school assignments.  I put aside extra hours to dedicate to my studies.  But now things are starting to get back to normal.

The next tip is to avoid toxic people.  One of the worse things you can do is to be around negative people when you are trying to put your life back together.  You don’t need negative people in your life who are constantly putting you down, sabotaging your dreams, and are verbally attacking you.   Toxic people can drag you down and keep you from getting back on track.

The last tip is to clarity.  Having clarity as to which direction you want to go in your life enables you be focused.  The pieces in your life begin to gradually come together and all of the pieces begin to fit.

Once the pieces fit, then you are more complete and whole.  You are now ready to conquer bigger and better things.  Hang in there, because the ball is in your court.
